Tina Christmas Message 2023

Tina (Service Lead)'s Christmas Message 2023 (posted 2 December 2023)

It’s bizarre to think that this time last year I’d never met any of you! A lot has happened in the last 12 months.

We’ve seen new staff and Blue Shirts, changes to our operating procedures and some big successful fundraising events.

Although it’s been a big learning curve, I can honestly say I have now settled in and feel a part of the MKCCG family. Thank you for having me and for making me feel so welcome and thank you to the staff and volunteers for helping me learn the ropes.

It is sometimes difficult for me to be at all the sessions due to my working hours, I try to do it on a rota where I can. I apologise if you don’t always see me at your session. If you would like a chat, please leave your name with our admin ladies or Health Professional and I will make sure I catch up with you. This club belongs to you, the members, and I endeavour to keep you all as happy as I can!

This time of year often makes us want to reflect on what we have achieved as individuals and as a group. This year has certainly been a big one for me, leaving my previous job of over 20 years and relocating was quite a gamble. I am usually Miss ‘Play it safe’!

However this decision turned out to be one of the best I have ever made. I thoroughly enjoy my role as Service Lead, I am overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of you all and your joint effort to help us keep our group going.

Reflecting on what we, as a group, have achieved, is not just encouraging but also reassuring and promising. Encouraging because things are starting to improve after the knock we had due to Covid and pre-Covid procedures are back in play! We are also getting better known in the communities we serve. Thank you to all that are helping me spread the word.

Reassuring and promising because we are now receiving more referrals and our membership is starting to creep up too. We have added to our hard working team of paid staff and volunteers and we have raised over £10,000 in events outside of our social calendar! Thank you to everyone who helped in any way with the Swimathon and Cyclathon. You exceeded our expectations.

We have of course had some sad news over the year. Those we have lost will stay in our hearts and we extend our condolences to their loved ones.

I want to extend a special thank you to all of our volunteers and members of our management and social committees. Without you, we wouldn’t survive.

As we look forward to what the New Year may bring, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2024.
